Celebrated island entertainer Jimmy Borges is one of Kukui High School’s proud alumni. He penned the school’s controversial alma mater (who can forget the infamous nut-throwing incident of 1988?). Today, he recorded a rousing — if not arousing — personal performance of this infectiously catchy tune. It is our distinct honor and pleasure to share this brilliant piece with you. Go Nuts!

What a touching tribute to the old school. I remember our band playing this song during the ’84 championship game against Waimanalo High. How the tears of joy flowed as we lit our kukui nuts and “raised them to the sky.” I do think the tears were from our emotions and not the first-degree burns we were enduring. IMUA!

Awesome to hear the alma mater again. During my years (c/o ’88), we nevah lost to Punahou, Iolani, St. Louis, Farrington, Kahuku or Kapolei. How you like dem nuts?
I think the one of the verses was “grab your nuts and cough real loud”. I think Mr. Borges missed that one.
